India beat New Zealand by 12 runs in the first match of the three ODI series. He took a 1-0 lead in the series with a win in Hyderabad on Wednesday (January 18). Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first. Thanks to Shubman Gill's brilliant double century, Team India scored 349 for eight in 50 overs. Gill played an innings of 208 runs. In reply, New Zealand were bowled out for 337 runs in 49.2 overs.

At one time the New Zealand team was struggling to lose six wickets for 131 runs. It looked like Team India would win this match easily, but from here Michael Braswell and Mitchell Santner managed the innings. The duo put on 162 off 102 balls for the seventh wicket.
